Active Isolated Stretch

Active Isolated Stretch is a technique that works with your body's nervous and muscular systems to provide safe and significant increases in flexibility.  It is a physiologically sound tool that can be used in warming up, cooling down, injury prevention and rehabilitation.

An Overview

  • Increases flexibility and mobility
  • Increases blood flow and muscle recovery.
  • This technique allows each muscle to be stretched independently.  Performing precise localized movements isloates the muscle being stretched.
  • Each stretch is held for 2 seconds at the end of your range of motion and then released.  8-10 repetitions of each stretch should be performed.
  • By releasing the stretch after 2 seconds you are allowing increased blood flow, oxygen uptake and nutrition to tissues.
  • This technique can be performed with the assistance of a trainer or independently with the use of a rope.
